My tutoring focuses are reading and comprehension, social studies, and elementary math. My philosophy for tutoring and teaching is that all students learn differently. They all have different needs, and it's identifying these needs and addressing them that really make for a big change in the student's study. I aim to find the learning style of the student and really focus on what works for them. I have a BA in elementary education from the University of Iowa. I did not immediately enter the education field after school, as I decided to stay home to raise my two boys. However, I did have the experience of being a home educator and being a part of the Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters program. I later completed a master's in ESL and curriculum and instruction. Later on, I worked as an intervention teacher for reading and math, as well as a one-on-one educator for special needs students. These experiences have instilled in me a love for teaching that I hope shows when I tutor.
